Thoughts?? I found this interesting Sally Mann is renowned for photographing her family her views are fascinating.

What do you think of Sally's comment "unless you photograph what you love, your not going to make good art"?

  1. I truly agree with Sally's statement about photographing what you love.
even if what you love is the particular project/ idea you're trying to portray.
Since I occasionally work for commission there have been many photoshoots that I have not connected with, and the results for me are always disappointing.

  2. Georgia I agree I feel like when I'm shooting people I need to have some sort of connection with them. There have been a few occasion where that connection isn't there and as hard as you try, it is hard to achieve the desired outcome. You become less resistant to ask them to move to achieve the best possible outcome for the shoot. You tend to shot in a way that is more comfortable for them, which is crazy because you then regret your actions. It does get easier with time and experience (we can all relate to this), it also depends on how much you want that shot. Sally Mann is incredible she knows what makes a stella image and the fact she doesn't move beyond her farm for her bodies of work. Imagine how much money we could save, reduce stress no time pressures.
